European Human Rights Moot Court Competition
Last Update
30.06.2015

In order to provide law students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in the field, European Law Students' Association (ELSA) organizes a Europe-wide moot court competition on the European Convention on Human Rights in cooperation with the Council of Europe. The competition simulates the procedure of complaints to the European Court of Human Rights: The teams will examine a fic tive case and draft written submissions for each party. The teams will be evaluated based on their written admissions and the best 16 teams will compete in the European Final at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The European Human Rights Moot Court Competition works as a unique contribution to university curricula in helping students understand the principles and implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Furthermore, through the com petition students gain practical experience that can only be pa ralleled by pleading a real case in the European Court of Human Rights itself.

The prize for the winner team of the competition “the Council of Europe Prize” is a traineeship at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for a period of one month.
