Last Update
26.10.2015

ICC Lex mercatoria moot was first time organized on 2012 in Minsk, Belarus and it gathered Russian speaking students from CIS and Baltic counties.

The scope of the competition is to provide a fictitious international trade case which is further evaluated by each team from the point of view of both the claimant and respondent. The dispute in the case is held on the basis of ICC Arbitration rules and other documents.

The contest is highly valued by students as it gives an opportunity to develop and further improve law related practical skills. A unique social and academic experience is gained which improves interpersonal skills of each participant as well as provides an insight into the core of court and arbitration processes. In fact, such scale events are usually associated with the most enjoyable and useful period of time during the student life.

The University of Latvia team participated in the first ICC Lex mercatoria moot in 2012 when the team won the first place. University of Latvia was represented by Jeļena Sagateļana, Dana Kašarailo, Andrejs Lisenko, Rihards Freidenfelds and Inga Kačevska (coach).

An article regarding the moot was published in law journal Jurista Vārds No.50 (749), 11.12.2012 (in Latvian). The success of the team was also described  on the website of the University of Latvia (in Latvian) and featured in a story on the Belarussian television (in Russian).

On May 31st, 2013 the students received the Faculty of Law's Dean's Appreciation for popularising the name of University of Latvia's Faculty of Law and a significant success in an international law moot court competition.
