Professor Kalvis Torgans receives the Grand Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences

Senate of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, after hearing the references about the candidates nominated by the Presidium of the Academy, decided to award the Grand Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences to academicians Vija Klusa and Kalvis Torgans.

Actual member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, professor of the University of Latvia Faculty of Law Dr.habil.iur. Kalvis Torgans will receive the Grand Medal for introducing a modern civil law school in Latvian legal science and for a significant contribution to the implementation of theoretical knowledge in practice.

Traditionally, the Grand Medals of the Latvian Academy of Sciences are given at the Academy's General Meeting in autumn, which will be held in November this year.

The Grand Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences is the highest award given by the Academy to Latvian and foreign scientists for outstanding creative achievements. So far, among 50 recipients of the Grand Medal of Latvian Academy of Sciences there have been only two lawyers - Dietrich Andre Loeber in 1995 and Talavs Jundzis in 2016.
