On 2 October 2025, a Memorandum to Support Excellence in Jurisprudence was signed by the University of Latvia, the University of Latvia Foundation and five top-tier Latvian law firms – COBALT, Ellex Kļaviņš, Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns, Sorainen and TEGOS.

“This initiative, to which responded the supporters of student participation in international moot court competitions, is a significant step in the development of patronage, provides broader opportunities for the experience of UL Faculty of Law students in international moot courts, and helps to organize the current support system in a more transparent manner. We are profoundly grateful to every patron who advances the mission of the UL Faculty of Law," emphasizes Edvīns Danovskis, Dean of the UL Faculty of Law.

The aim of the memorandum is to ensure sustainable support for the participation of UL Faculty of Law students in international moot courts, which for several decades have served as an important tool for talent development and significantly contribute to the development of the Latvian legal system.

Each of the signatories to the memorandum has committed to making an annual donation to UL Foundation to ensure student growth, providing an opportunity to participate in the selection and preparation of moot court participants.

Zaiga Pūce, Executive Director of UL Foundation, emphasises: “This commitment is a good example of how the industry can support future specialists in the study process. Guaranteed financial support will permit them to focus on the content. I believe that regular participation in such events outside of compulsory studies will contribute to broadening their horizons and proving the abilities of our students in the global academic environment, and, furthermore, will yield victory in international moot court competitions.”

With this memorandum, UL Faculty of Law and leading law firms have taken a significant step towards strengthening the knowledge, professional skills

and international competitiveness of the next generation of Latvian lawyers. UL Foundation invites companies and individuals to participate in promoting excellence in jurisprudence with donations.
