At the University of Latvia, Faculty of Law, the anniversary 10th International Scientific Conference “National Legal Systems and the EU Law: Reality and Future Challenges in a Comparative Perspective” has concluded.

On 6–7 November 2025, the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia hosted the 10th anniversary of this international scientific conference, which brought together more than 80 scholars and legal experts from Latvia and abroad.

Traditionally, the conference serves as a broad platform for academic discussion, where researchers, lecturers, and legal practitioners analyse how national legal systems adapt to contemporary European and global challenges.

This year’s conference featured ten thematic sections, covering areas such as public and private law, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, energy and climate law, commercial law, gender equality, the role of constitutional institutions, as well as the protection of collective consumer interests in the European Union.

Special attention was drawn to the section “European Union Law in the Changing World”, whose plenary session featured Dr. Martin Kuijer, Vice-President of the Venice Commission for Democracy through Law and Justice at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. iur. Irēna Kucina, President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia. The discussion focused on the impact of EU law on national legal systems, the challenges of its implementation, and future development directions.

The conference gathered participants from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Finland, Cyprus, Greece, and other countries, reaffirming the Faculty of Law’s strong position in the international academic community and cooperation networks.

The conference “National Legal Systems and the EU Law: Reality and Future Challenges in a Comparative Perspective” was held on-site, bringing together a wide audience of academics, legal practitioners, students, and public sector experts.
