Atlases kārtība
Komandas atlase notiks gan rakstiskajā, gan mutiskajā kārtā. Lūdzu interesentus pieteikties līdz šī gada 15.augustam. Pieteikšanās secībā arī tiks piešķirtas atlases vajadzībām lomas – pieteicējs vai atbildētājs. Saņemot ziņu, ka jūsu pieteikums atlasei ir reģistrēts, jūs saņemsiet arī norādi uz pārstāvamo pozīciju. Pieteikumus un vēlāk arī savus rakstiskos darbus lūdzu sūtīt uz maris.lejnieks@lu.lv. Pieteikumu rakstiskā daļa, aizstāvot izlozēto pozīciju (pieteicējas vai atbildētājas valsts), jāiesūta līdz šī gada 1.septembrim. Atlases mutiskā daļa noritēs 5.septembra vakara pusē, rēķinoties ar pretendentu un atlases tiesnešu darba laiku. Precīzs atlases laiks un vieta tiks noteikts 4.septembra vakarā. Mutiskā atlase var izpausties gan kā savstarpēja pretendentu izspēle, gan kā intervija. Protams, viss angļu valodā.
Dalībnieku prasības
Sacensību norises laiks sakrīt ar 2026. gada vasaras sesiju, tāpēc visērtāk piedalīties būs bakalaura 3. kursa studentiem. Tomēr pieteikties var arī citu kursu studenti, ja ir gatavi kādu pārbaudījumu kārtot atkārtotajā eksāmenu sesijā.
Atlases kāzuss
Tā kā sacensību oficiālais kāzuss tiks publicēts tikai 4. novembrī, atlases vajadzībām tiks izmantots šāds gadījums:
Case Concerning the Coffin Incident (Far-far Away Duchy v. Kingdom)
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Cinderella, who lived deep in an enchanted forest — not with a wicked stepmother, but with seven kind-hearted dwarfs.
All seven earned their living as employees of the private military company Apple, dully registered in the Kingdom, providing armed security services to merchant ships in areas of the world’s oceans threatened by sea piracy. The owner and chief executive of this company was the charming Snow White. Snow White, who also held the rank of lieutenant colonel in her Kingdom’s National Security Service — where she headed one of its departments — successfully combined her private business with service to the state. During guarded voyages, Snow White was usually on board the ship alongside the heavily armed dwarfs.
Some time ago — though perhaps not so long ago — during another voyage, the Apple dwarfs were assigned to guard the private merchant ship Coffin, a modern, fast container carrier. As the Coffin sailed along the coast of the Far-far Away Duchy, 15 nautical miles offshore, it was attacked from speedboats by a gang of armed hobbit pirates. The heroic dwarfs, all highly trained and experienced in maritime security, not only repelled the attack but pursued the pirates as they fled. The Coffin gave chase with the intention of stopping the pirates, detaining them, and handing them over for prosecution.
However, eight nautical miles off the Duchy’s coast, the Far-far Away Duchy Coast Guard vessel intercepted the Coffin. With its gun barrels trained on the merchant ship, the Coast Guard forced the Coffin to abandon the pursuit and turn back, even though the pirate boat was only a few hundred cable lengths away from being caught.
The incident sparked a diplomatic dispute between the Kingdom and the Far-far Away Duchy. The Duchy accused the Kingdom of violating the rules of innocent passage, arguing that the Apple dwarfs were heavily armed and about to use their weapons within the Duchy’s territorial waters. The Duchy characterized the pursuit as an act of aggression and demanded that the Kingdom extradite Snow White for prosecution, holding her personally responsible.
The Kingdom rejected these accusations, asserting that the Coffin had been under pirate attack, that its crew had engaged in a lawful hot pursuit, and that Snow White, as a public official, enjoyed immunity from the Duchy’s jurisdiction.
When diplomatic negotiations failed, the two states agreed to submit the dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), with the Far-far Away Duchy as the applicant and the Kingdom as the respondent.
Both the Kingdom and the Far-far Away Duchy are members of the United Nations and parties to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
